À l’intérieur (Inside)

by on Dec.14, 2009, under Daily Review

A young pregnant woman (Alysson Paradis) is in a huge car crash which results with the death of her husband. A few months later, she gets a knock at the door and a weird lady (Beatrice Dalle) dressed in black wanting to use the phone; she’s there to take the unborn baby for her self, with a huge pair of scissors.

beatriceIt’s a shocking premise for a film, and it’s seriously heavy going on they eye and mind. The gore is here in abundance although I must say, the balance is dead right when it comes to how much we get to see and how much is insinuated. Gore highlight has to be scissors through the back of the leg, right through the kneecap. There are all sorts of people knocking on the door to help and check on her safety who all fall victim to Beatrice’s blade with blood pumping and spraying all over the house. All the while, we get to see the baby floating about inside the belly as Sarah (Paradis) gets punched and chased and knocked about. It’s quite an amazing effect which also adds to the horror of the violence being inflicted on the mother, effecting the little face inside as it gets a bit upset.

Dalle is horrifically stunning with a brilliant performance as always who is becoming something of a scream queen in the genre. This is an impressive debut from Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, who direct; I’ll be looking forward to their next offering.
