Jason Goes to Hell

I could have lived without seeing this film. I would have been 90 minutes better off. It’s not that it’s a bad film, it’s just not really my kinda thing and not really a Friday 13th film by anyone’s standards. I blame New Line, who I presume picked up the
rights to the whole show and decided to take the franchise in a new direction.
We start off with Jason out and about in the woods doing his thing, chasing a semi naked girl which results in a trap by the US government. Loads of troops take aim and blow Jason away. Back in the morgue, on of the doctors gets a bit too close to the remains and ends up possessed by the spirit of Jason. We also have a serial killer hunter who claims that Jason has always been able to shift from body to body and this is how he’s been killed so many times. We
also get a sub plot with a TV presenter after a big news story after a framed Jason style murder.
I don’t buy any of this. It’s just not for me. You can take a thread of the original story and take it in a new direction, but don’t distort to the point of obscurity. This ruins the whole thing for me. I might have been a bit more interested if the people Jason possess’ actually try to look like Jason, wear the mask etc, but this isn’t the case. We get a final look at the big guy at the end, for some reason he comes back fully masked. I also didn’t like the final scene. I’m not gonna mention it here, but if you’ve seen it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. It was obviously a hint at a possible tie in which was being bounced about.
Good things though, the gore is great. There is a murder of a girl about 20 mins in, she’s in a tent with her bloke when she gets pinned through the chest with a big spike before Jason rips her in half. Amazing effect, one of the best I’ve ever seen actually.
