Enter Zombie King

by on Mar.15, 2010, under Daily Review

What was this? Christ. Wrestlers and Zombies. Not the British wrestlers either. Not Giant Haystacks or Big Daddy, no, these are the American blokes with colourful masks. The plot is something to do with a challenge for wrestling champion, currently held by the Zombie king, a former champion who is now ruling the world with his Zombie palls. The zombies in this case seem to be domesticated for the best part, although get a bit hungry for flesh on occasion.

I actually feel like I’ve just dreamt this film. It’s comic book crazy. Colourful and snappy with a ‘50’s rock n roll punch but doesn’t really make good viewing or offer anything to the genre apart from the idea that you can take any subject and inject a little zombie to result in a film. It’s crazy, but true. This works on some kind of level, but not really for me. I couldn’t get to grips with the masks, even though they are all different colours, the characters all blended into the same bloke for me. I’d rather watch a British 70’s version of this with some of the key wrestlers of the day, facing off in Blackpool. A good attempt though.
