Night of the Eagle. (Burn Witch Burn)

After the success of Night of the Demon, here we have Night of the Eagle. One of the only early (1962) Ealing Britsh films which dabbles in Witchcraft. Norman (Peter Wyngarde) and Tansy Taylor(Janet Blair) find themselves involved in a blacker side to magic when Tansy starts a bit of
dabbling. Norman finds himself on the backlash as some strange things begin to happen, as a non believer, his views are slowly beginning to change, making the decision to get to the bottom of things. But will he get in too deep?
It’s a great film, lesser know and very atmospheric. Making the most of it’s black and white film, using shadows to optimum effect. Wyngarde knocks out a convincing performance, even when being chased by a giant eagle in the later parts of the film. One great effect has the eagle hopping along a corridor inside a mansion. Very impressive. Margaret Johnston offers a very creepy performance as the high Witch.
If you enjoyed Night of the Demon, give this a crack, and if you haven’t seen either, watch ‘em both.

Ealing Studios closed in 1958 so this is not an Ealing film.
