Minaccia d’amore (Dial Help)

by on Dec.15, 2009, under Daily Review

Ruggero Deodato is famous for his cannibal flicks, Holocaust being his masterpiece. Here, we see his versatility and poetic vision with this beautiful looking movie. It’s plot is crazy and could realistically only have ever been made in lewisItaly (or maybe France) and it’s this romantic European feel and artistic charm which make this film a joy to watch. The plot is crazy. A psychic (Charlotte Lewis) receives phone calls from a call centre team from beyond the grave. When her close friends (and fish) start dropping like flies, she investigates. It’s a crazy plot and Charlotte Lewis really cannot act, but she has a go and does pretty much anything and everything that Ruggero desires, which leads to some of the most ridiculous scenes.

The film looks great. Many perfect set pieces with a real arty dream feel. The appartment which is featured in most of the film looks amazing in a simplistic 80’s kinda way. The highlight has to be Charlotte in the bath tub, clothed that is which is all a bit strange, but for me, the ending is a beautiful thing, very nicely done and wraps up the whole crazy plot with perfect cinematography.
