Week 6

by on Dec.05, 2009, under 365 Schedule

This week, we pay tribute to the work of Dickie Todd who passed away 3rd December. Famous for his role in the Dam Busters, he was also involved in a few genre features and these we will explore.

Also, later on in the week, Zombie trilogy! Rob Zombie that is. What’s the Todd/Zombie connection? First to offer a correct answer wins a prize.

  • Bloody Mallory
  • Blood Bath
  • Asylum
  • Bloodbath
  • House of 1000 Corpses
  • Halloween
  • The Devil’s Rejects Spider Labyrinth

Keep the suggestions coming in.

Annoyingly, Devil’s Rejects is yet to arrive via Royal Mail. Therefore, replaced by one of next weeks selections, a lesser known Giallo classic.

The Devil Rides Out.

by on Dec.05, 2009, under Daily Review

Terrence Fisher directs, Richard Matheson script which means only one thing. Classic Hammer at it’s finest. A tale of black magic, devil worship, loads of chanting and robes. Mocata (Charles Gray) is taking his witchcraft a bit too far, his friends all devilget a bit carried away and all end up getting themselves in too deep. Debutantes. Nothing better to do. When they decide they need to sacrifice the niece of Duc de Richleau (Christopher Lee), they meet their match.  Richleau and his friends come face to face with Mocata in a deadly duel of dark magic.

A fine cast (Pat Mower and Leon Greene alongside Lee and Gray) and some stunning locations, beautiful mansions and lush countryside. Making England look glorious. Being set in the 20’s gives a great excuse to use vintage cars and what’s better than a vintage car chase? A great scene. But an even better one involves a giant spider approaching Richleau as he battles evil in a magic symbolic ring. The arrival of the goat like Devil himself, in another summoning is also a highlight.

It’s a fine film, with some interesting twists and a perfect script. It’s also good to see Lee in a heroic role.
